I loved learning about the importance of Fathers and Mothers in this week's discussion. Each has their own specific role and purpose within a family and they both work together to better the home. I've learned that both parents have their places at work and in the home and they have duties to fulfill. I grew up with my father working most of the day while my mother worked in the home; caring for us kids and making sure our immediate needs were met. I do not think that I would have it any other way. I understood how crucial it was to have a mother at home and a father who was our source of income. I did notice though, how I had a stronger relationship with my mom because she was always there. The relationship between my father and I was a little harder to develop because he was not around as much. However, I did not let that ruin the desire I had to have a stronger bond with my dad.
We read an article by Dennis Prager that was asking whether or not a full-time homemaker swaps her mind for a mop. Many women go to school with a career path in mind in hopes that they will do something work while with the knowledge they obtain. There are people that believe once a woman marries, has children and decides to be a stay at home mother are putting all their time and money invested in their education to waste. I think that is a bunch of bolonga. We learn so many valuable lessons in college that we can surely teach our children. I am majoring in Child Development and I do plan on being a stay at home mother. What better way to prepare myself as a mother! I learn how to raise kids in the most effective way possible, I've learned how to care for myself and others, and I know better now, how I can live with others. There is no swapping minds for mops. Women learn to put their skills to use.
Well we all know how important mothers are. What about fathers? Fathers do so much! I know all fathers are different and many people grew up with poor father figures or no father figure at all. My father was a great father. He protects us, he works and provides for our every needs, and he presides and fulfills his duties as a priesthood holder. I do not have a obvious strong bond with my father but we bond in various and special ways. I love my father and my mother.
I wish is was like to be a mother. I can dream and think of how it would be, but I want to know what it is really like. What is the reality of being a mother, bearing children, and giving up my life/putting it on hold so that I can fulfill my duty. I was put on this earth to eventually raise a family. I have great examples to look up to and I hope that one day I can be half the parent that my parents were to me.
